What is the Parish Council doing?

The Parish Council has been working to reduce its footprint, below is a list of things that have been done so far.

Action Outcome

Use of technology for meeting papers - previously Councillors had copies of agendas and reports in paper format but following a change in legislation moved to providing an ipad to councillor and sending all information electronically, planning meetings had hard copy plans.

This has resulted in a much reduced use of paper and printer ink and a carbon saving of approximately 420kg per year

Street lights changed to LEDs

Village hall lights upgraded to LEDs

LEDs use less energy, resulting in reductions to costs and carbon emissions.

Village hall and parish office heating controlled by a NEST thermostat

Allows staff to control heating schedules daily to reduce energy consumption and costs

Hall cloakrooms have been upgraded with:

  • low flush toilets
  • motion activated lights
  • sensor activated taps

reduced water consumption and lower energy costs

Planting:

  • Indigenous hedges planted around hall garden area
  • Trees planted and replaced when required
  • Wildflower verges around the parish
  • Wildflower area at the recreation ground
  • Some verges left to grown wild where visibility is not an issue

Increased biodiversity

Promotion of rights of way in parish magazine and on website

Encourages exercise for a healthy lifestyle and reduces emissions from less car journeys

Village hall windows and doors replaced with double glazing

Improved insultation resulting in reduced energy consumption and costs

Solar panels have been installed at the village hall

Produces green energy for the hall, any unused goes into the grid

Community Climate Day

Greater engagement with the community to raise awareness of climate issues and what people can do individually and collectively

Installation of batteries to store solar energy at the village hall

further reduces energy consumption and costs

Change bank to one which does not invest in fossil fuels

ethical banking with lower CO2 emissions

Installation of electric vehicle charging points at the village hall car park

Encourages more use of electric vehicles by providing a local charging facility

Lobby Bucks Council for

  • cycle routes around the parish connecting us to Aylesbury, Wendover and other local villages
  • Improved bus service for the area

Less car journeys for individuals resulting in lower emissions and cleaner air

Community Climate Action Plan

Will work with CAWT and other local parish councils to produce a community climate action plan
